The Federal Government offer financial assistance through two federal disability programs, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

To qualify for Social Security Disability in San Francisco claimants must have worked jobs covered by Social Security and paid enough in payroll taxes to be considered “insured”. SSDI in San Francisco is only offered to those who are considered disabled by the Social Security Administration and who are unable to work for at least 12 continuous months due to a severe medical condition. Claimants who qualify for SSDI in San Francisco may also receive Medicare coverage 24 months after the onset date of disability.
